Every week, a member from the afikra community takes over our Instagram Stories for an enlightening Storytime to share what they have been reading, researching, working on, or possible presentation ideas. The takeover takes place every Monday of the week to celebrate the nerdiness of our community and spread curiosity.
An in-depth presentation on a topic related to the Arab world’s history and culture during a one-hour online event. The presentation is the culmination of a month-long afikra coaching process to help identify a topic, find research, and develop the presentation. The goal is to showcase the presenter’s curiosity, research, and share some knowledge.
Short 5-10 presentations sharing an interesting source (article, video, book, podcast, or another finding) with the audience.
Take the leap and join our incredible list of presenters. Even if you don't have a topic or are uncomfortable speaking in front of a crowd, our team guides you through every step of the way.
afikra presentations are always related to the histories or cultures of the Arab world.
We don’t expect you to be an expert, in fact, we hope that you are taking the opportunity to learn something new.
The presentation cannot promote an agenda, business, or opinion.
You will receive lots of support from the afikra team to make sure you feel successful throughout the whole process.
afikra Ambassadors are grassroots volunteers who organize local events and serve as points of contact for their local afikra community.
We encourage past volunteers, contributors, and all community members to apply again for this year’s program.
This year we’re opening applications in the following cities: Abu Dhabi, Amman, Amsterdam, Bahrain, Beirut, Berlin, Boston, Cairo, Doha, Dubai, Jeddah, Kuwait, London, Los Angeles, Marrakech, Montreal, New York, Paris, Riyadh, Toronto, Tunis, and Washington D.C.
We are happy you’re here!
afikra Global Connect is an opportunity to connect with high school students from around the world that are invested in exploring the histories of the Arab world and shaping its future. Throughout eight weeks, students go on a learning journey connected to global peers and guided by our program instructors to explore the histories and cultures of the Arab World.
Insofar as afikra is a community, we constantly look to build connections across our network. To that end, we try to celebrate the partnerships we have with organizations worldwide that believe in our vision and whose work aligns with ours.
