Author & Journalist Joumana Haddad [Book Club]
Joumana Haddad took us on a journey through her past and upbringing in Bourj Hammoud to uncover family sorrows and share the stories of those left scathed by the Armenian genocide.
Joumana Haddad is a Lebanese poet, translator and journalist, born in Beirut in 1970. She is the editor in chief of the cultural pages in An Nahar newspaper, as well as the administrator of the IPAF literary prize (the íArab Bookerë). She speaks seven languages and earned a doctorate in linguistics and translation at the Sorbonne. She has already published several poetry collections, including Two Hands to the Abyss and Lilith's return, widely acclaimed by critics.
About the Book Club
Book Club is an interview series that calls for afikra community members, who are interested in literature and reading, to spend time reading along with the entire community. Books in Arabic and English will be announced on afikra’s reading list and the members will be asked to do the reading at home at their leisure and then join afikra for a conversation with the authors of those books. Every two weeks, a conversation will be held with an author to discuss their work and the book in particular. Individuals joining the call will be expected to have read the book and prepared questions regarding the context, motivation, and background stories.
