DESCRIPTION
I’ve always been curious about the lack of train lines in the Arab world. In researching why this may be, I stumbled upon a infrastructure project undertaken in the early part of the 1900s by the Ottoman ruler, Sultan Abdulhamid II. The name of the project was the “Hejaz Railway” and it would be dubbed the “Holy Line” as its main purpose was to connect Damascus and Mecca by train.
